Uses

This triple-combination topical cream is used for inflammatory skin conditions complicated by both fungal and bacterial infections. Betamethasone reduces inflammation, clotrimazole treats dermatophyte and Candida infections, and gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic active against gram-negative bacteria.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in rosacea, perioral dermatitis, acne, viral infections (herpes simplex, chickenpox), known hypersensitivity to any component, and untreated primary infections. Avoid on perforated eardrums.

Side effects

Local adverse effects include skin atrophy, striae, burning, itching, and secondary infections. Prolonged use of betamethasone may cause HPA axis suppression. Sensitization to gentamicin may develop. Risk of superinfection exists.

Warnings

Limit duration of use; avoid use on the face or under occlusion without supervision. Monitor for signs of systemic corticosteroid absorption in children. Sensitization to any component may occur. Not intended for ophthalmic use.

How it works

Betamethasone suppresses the inflammatory cascade through glucocorticoid receptor activation. Clotrimazole inhibits ergosterol biosynthesis in fungal cell membranes, disrupting membrane integrity. Gentamicin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit.

Store below 25°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
