Uses

Isoconazole nitrate is an imidazole antifungal used topically and intravaginally for the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis and other susceptible fungal and dermatophyte infections.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to isoconazole or other imidazole antifungals.

Side effects

Local reactions such as burning, itching, or irritation may occur at the site of application. Systemic absorption following vaginal use is minimal.

Warnings

Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use internally unless directed (e.g., vaginal ovule). Consult a doctor if symptoms persist beyond the course of treatment.

How it works

Isoconazole inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-dependent 14α-demethylase, disrupting ergosterol biosynthesis and compromising fungal cell membrane integrity, leading to fungal cell death.
