Uses
Multivitamin and mineral supplement used to prevent and treat iron-deficiency anemia, support red blood cell production, and provide nutritional support during pregnancy, lactation, or states of increased demand.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in hemochromatosis or other iron storage disorders. Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component.
Side effects
Iron-containing supplements commonly cause gastrointestinal side effects including constipation, dark stools, nausea, and stomach cramps. High doses of vitamin C may cause diarrhea or kidney stones with long-term use.
Warnings
Keep out of reach of children; iron overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in young children. Take with food if gastrointestinal upset occurs. May interfere with absorption of certain antibiotics (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones); separate doses by at least two hours.
How it works
Ferrous fumarate provides bioavailable iron essential for hemoglobin and myoglobin synthesis. Folic acid is necessary for DNA synthesis and red blood cell maturation. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) enhances non-heme iron absorption. Lactoferrin is an iron-binding glycoprotein that facilitates iron uptake in the intestine. Copper and manganese serve as cofactors for enzyme systems involved in iron metabolism and antioxidant defense.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep tightly closed.
