Uses
Used for local and regional anesthesia and analgesia during surgical, dental, obstetric, and diagnostic procedures.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to amide-type local anesthetics and for intravenous regional anesthesia.
Side effects
May cause hypotension, bradycardia, neurological symptoms, and serious cardiac toxicity at high systemic levels.
Warnings
Serious cardiovascular toxicity can occur with accidental intravascular administration or overdose.
How it works
Blocks nerve impulse conduction by inhibiting sodium channels in neuronal membranes.
