Uses
A combined calcium supplement with folic acid and vitamins, indicated for the prevention and correction of deficiencies in calcium, magnesium, vitamin D3, and vitamin E. Folic acid supports neural tube development and is particularly important in pregnancy and the periconceptional period.
Do not use if
Hypercalcemia, hypervitaminosis D, severe renal impairment. Hypersensitivity to any component. Folic acid should not mask vitamin B12 deficiency pernicious anemia — rule out B12 deficiency before long-term use.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. May cause gastrointestinal discomfort (constipation, bloating, nausea). Excessive vitamin D3 can cause hypercalcemia. High-dose vitamin E may affect coagulation.
Warnings
Ensure total daily intake does not exceed safe upper limits. Use caution in patients with renal disease. High-dose vitamin E may potentiate anticoagulant effects of warfarin. Take with adequate fluid intake.
How it works
Calcium and vitamin D3 act synergistically to promote bone mineralization and regulate calcium homeostasis. Magnesium supports enzymatic function and vitamin D metabolism. Folic acid (vitamin B9) is essential for DNA synthesis, cell division, and neural tube formation. Vitamin E (tocopherol) functions as a lipid-soluble antioxidant protecting cell membranes.
