Uses
This combination of chondroitin, glucosamine, and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is used as a dietary supplement to support joint health and may help alleviate symptoms of osteoarthritis such as joint pain and stiffness.
Do not use if
No absolute contraindications are established. Use with caution in patients on anticoagulant therapy (warfarin), as glucosamine may enhance anticoagulant effects. Avoid in patients with known allergy to shellfish if glucosamine is derived from marine sources.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. May cause mild gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, or bloating. Glucosamine is derived from shellfish and may be a concern for individuals with shellfish allergies.
Warnings
Evidence for efficacy in osteoarthritis is mixed; benefits may vary among individuals. Patients with diabetes should monitor blood glucose levels, as glucosamine may affect insulin sensitivity. Consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or lactation.
How it works
Glucosamine is a precursor for glycosaminoglycan synthesis in cartilage. Chondroitin sulfate inhibits enzymes that degrade cartilage and may have anti-inflammatory properties. MSM is a source of bioavailable sulfur thought to support connective tissue integrity.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15–30°C), away from direct sunlight and humidity.
