Uses
Used as a nutritional supplement providing omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) from cod liver oil along with vitamin E as an antioxidant, supporting cardiovascular health, joint function, immune support, and skin health.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in known allergy to fish products or vitamin E. Avoid excessive doses during pregnancy due to vitamin A content. Use with caution in patients on anticoagulant therapy as omega-3 and vitamin E may affect platelet function.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. May cause fishy aftertaste, gastrointestinal discomfort, or loose stools. High doses of vitamin A (present in cod liver oil) may be teratogenic. Vitamin E at very high doses may increase bleeding risk.
Warnings
Do not exceed the recommended dose. Consult a physician before use if pregnant or on anticoagulant therapy. Contains fish-derived ingredients; unsuitable for fish allergy sufferers.
How it works
Cod liver oil provides EPA and DHA which modulate eicosanoid synthesis and have anti-inflammatory effects. Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) is a lipid-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidative damage and helps prevent peroxidation of omega-3 fatty acids.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Refrigerate after opening if directed on packaging.
