Uses
Used for complicated intra-abdominal infections with metronidazole, complicated urinary tract infections including pyelonephritis, and hospital-acquired or ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia caused by susceptible organisms.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with serious hypersensitivity to ceftolozane, tazobactam, piperacillin/tazobactam, or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Side effects
Common adverse effects include nausea, diarrhea, headache, fever, and infusion-related reactions. Serious hypersensitivity and Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea may occur.
Warnings
Monitor renal function and adjust dosage when needed. Watch for severe hypersensitivity reactions and antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
How it works
Ceftolozane inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis while tazobactam inhibits beta-lactamases that can inactivate certain antibiotics.
