Uses

Indicated to reduce blood phenylalanine levels in adults and pediatric patients with tetrahydrobiopterin-responsive phenylketonuria. It is used together with a phenylalanine-restricted diet.

Do not use if

No specific contraindications are listed, but use is not recommended in patients with a history of severe hypersensitivity to sapropterin.

Side effects

Common adverse effects include headache, runny nose, throat pain, diarrhea, vomiting, cough, and nasal congestion.

Warnings

Monitor blood phenylalanine levels regularly. Serious hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis may occur.
