Uses

Used with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and provide cardiovascular and renal benefits in appropriate patients.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in severe renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, and hypersensitivity to either component.

Side effects

Genital fungal infections, urinary tract infections, diarrhea, nausea, dehydration, and hypoglycemia with certain combinations may occur.

Warnings

May cause lactic acidosis, ketoacidosis, dehydration, and serious urinary infections.

How it works

Combines SGLT2 inhibition that increases urinary glucose excretion with metformin-mediated reduction of hepatic glucose production.
