Uses
Indicated for the treatment of hypertension. May be used as monotherapy or in combination with thiazide diuretics.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to moexipril or any ACE inhibitor, history of ACE inhibitor-related angioedema, and coadministration with aliskiren in diabetic patients.
Side effects
Common adverse effects include cough, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, and rash. Serious but uncommon effects include angioedema, hypotension (especially with first dose), hyperkalemia, and renal impairment.
Warnings
Discontinue immediately if pregnancy is detected, as ACE inhibitors can cause fetal injury and death. Monitor for angioedema, which can be life-threatening. Check renal function and serum potassium regularly, especially with concurrent diuretic or NSAID use.
How it works
Moexipril is an ACE inhibitor prodrug that is hydrolyzed to its active form moexiprilat. Moexiprilat inhibits the angiotensin-converting enzyme, thereby reducing angiotensin II levels, decreasing aldosterone secretion, and lowering blood pressure.
Storage
Store at room temperature, protected from excessive moisture and heat.
