Uses

Used in the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) where combined bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory therapy is appropriate. Salbutamol provides rapid bronchodilation while beclomethasone reduces airway inflammation.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to either component. Not for use as primary therapy in severe acute asthma attacks without close monitoring.

Side effects

Common side effects include throat irritation, hoarseness, oral candidiasis (from beclomethasone), and tremor or palpitations (from salbutamol). Systemic corticosteroid effects are possible with high-dose use.

Warnings

Rinse mouth after inhalation to prevent oral candidiasis. Prolonged high-dose use of beclomethasone can suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Paradoxical bronchospasm may occur; discontinue immediately if it does.

How it works

Salbutamol is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, providing rapid bronchodilation. Beclomethasone is an inhaled corticosteroid that suppresses airway inflammation by inhibiting cytokine release and reducing mucosal edema.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15–30°C), away from heat, flame, and direct sunlight. Do not puncture or incinerate the pressurized container.
