Uses

Used for treatment of severe psoriasis in adults when other therapies are inadequate or unsuitable.

Do not use if

Contraindicated during pregnancy, severe hepatic or renal impairment, and chronic severe hyperlipidemia.

May cause dry skin, cheilitis, hair loss, elevated liver enzymes, and hyperlipidemia.

Highly teratogenic. Pregnancy must be avoided during treatment and for an extended period after discontinuation.

Acitretin is a systemic retinoid that normalizes epidermal cell growth and differentiation.

Store at 20–25°C and protect from excessive heat.
