Uses

This topical combination is used to relieve itching, minor skin irritation, and inflammation associated with insect bites, contact dermatitis, prickly heat, and eczema. Calamine soothes inflamed skin, camphor provides a cooling antipruritic effect, and glycerin moisturizes the skin.

Do not use if

Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not apply to open wounds or broken skin. Do not use in children under 2 years without medical supervision due to camphor content.

Side effects

Generally well tolerated. Rare local reactions include contact dermatitis or skin irritation. Camphor can be toxic if ingested or absorbed in large quantities, particularly in children.

Warnings

For external use only. Keep away from eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. Do not inhale vapors. Camphor is highly toxic if ingested — keep out of reach of children.

How it works

Calamine (zinc oxide and ferric oxide mixture) exerts mild astringent and antipruritic effects. Camphor activates TRPV1 and TRPA1 receptors producing a cooling sensation that reduces itch perception. Glycerin acts as a humectant, retaining moisture in the stratum corneum.

Storage

Store below 25°C, away from heat and direct sunlight. Shake well before use.
