Uses

Do not use if
Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to glipizide, type 1 diabetes mellitus, and diabetic ketoacidosis with or without coma.
Side effects
Hypoglycemia is the most significant adverse effect, especially with irregular meals. Gastrointestinal complaints are the most common, including nausea, diarrhea, and constipation. Hypersensitivity reactions and elevated liver enzymes have been reported.
Warnings
Oral hypoglycemic drugs may be associated with increased cardiovascular mortality compared to diet alone or diet plus insulin. Monitor for hypoglycemia, particularly in elderly or malnourished patients. Instruct patients to take before meals.
How it works
Glipizide is a second-generation sulfonylurea that lowers blood glucose by stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells through closure of ATP-sensitive potassium channels. It also enhances peripheral tissue sensitivity to insulin.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature. Protect from moisture and light.
