Uses
Used with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in severe renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and hypersensitivity.
Side effects
Common effects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, bloating, and vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use.
Warnings
Rare but serious lactic acidosis can occur, particularly in patients with renal impairment.
