Uses

Hormone replacement therapy indicated for relief of menopausal symptoms in postmenopausal women. Also used for prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fracture who are intolerant of other osteoporosis treatments.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in women with known or suspected hormone-sensitive malignancies, history of thromboembolic disease, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, severe hepatic disease, and pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Side effects

Common side effects include vaginal discharge, abdominal pain, weight gain, and skin reactions. Increased risk of stroke in women over 60 and of breast cancer with prolonged use. Endometrial stimulation may occur in women with intact uterus.

Warnings

Tibolone should not be used in women who are not fully postmenopausal (at least 12 months since last natural menses). Regular breast and gynecological monitoring is recommended. Increased stroke risk necessitates cardiovascular risk assessment before initiation.

How it works

Tibolone is a synthetic steroid that, after metabolism, produces metabolites with estrogenic, progestogenic, and androgenic activity. It alleviates vasomotor symptoms, prevents bone loss, and may improve libido without stimulating the endometrium when used correctly.

Storage

Store below 30°C, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep in original packaging.
