Uses
Combination antibiotic and corticosteroid eye/ear drops indicated for ocular and otic inflammatory conditions with or at risk of bacterial infection. Used in bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and external otitis with inflammatory component.
Do not use if
Hypersensitivity to any component. Contraindicated in viral, fungal, or mycobacterial ocular infections. Avoid in patients with perforated tympanic membrane for otic use.
Side effects
Ophthalmic use: transient burning, stinging, or blurred vision. Prolonged corticosteroid eye use may raise intraocular pressure or cause posterior subcapsular cataracts. Otic use: local irritation is uncommon.
Warnings
Do not exceed recommended treatment duration. Monitor intraocular pressure during prolonged ophthalmic use. Do not use in the ear if tympanic membrane perforation is suspected.
How it works
Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, blocking protein synthesis with bactericidal action against gram-negative and some gram-positive organisms. Prednisolone is a corticosteroid that suppresses local inflammatory response by inhibiting arachidonic acid metabolites.
Storage
Store below 25°C, protected from light. Discard remaining solution after treatment course.
