Uses

Used topically to treat inflammatory skin conditions complicated by bacterial or fungal infections, such as infected eczema, intertrigo, and otitis externa. The combination provides antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory activity.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to clioquinol, flumethasone, or any component. Avoid in viral skin infections (herpes, varicella), tuberculosis of the skin, and on the face for prolonged periods.

Side effects

Local reactions include skin irritation, burning, and stinging. Prolonged use may cause skin atrophy, striae, telangiectasia, and contact dermatitis. Systemic absorption of corticosteroid is possible with extensive use.

Warnings

Avoid prolonged use or application to large areas, especially in children. Do not use under occlusive dressings without medical supervision. Systemic corticosteroid effects (adrenal suppression) may occur with excessive use.

How it works

Clioquinol is a halogenated hydroxyquinoline with antibacterial and antifungal properties, acting by chelating metals essential for microbial growth. Flumethasone is a fluorinated corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis and reducing vascular permeability.
