Uses

Used for treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia in men with an enlarged prostate.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in pregnancy, women, children, and patients with hypersensitivity to dutasteride, tamsulosin, or related compounds.

Side effects

Common adverse effects include ejaculation disorders, erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, dizziness, and breast disorders.

Warnings

May cause orthostatic hypotension and syncope. Avoid combination with other alpha-blockers unless advised by a specialist.

How it works

Combines a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that reduces DHT production with an alpha-1 blocker that relaxes smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck.
