Uses

Antacid and antiflatulent combination for the relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, upset stomach, and bloating associated with excess gas. Provides rapid neutralization of gastric acid.

Do not use if

Hypercalcemia, severe renal impairment, and hypersensitivity to any ingredient. Use with caution in patients on calcium-channel blockers or digoxin.

Side effects

Constipation or, less commonly, diarrhea may occur with regular use. Excessive calcium carbonate intake can lead to hypercalcemia or milk-alkali syndrome. Simethicone is generally without systemic adverse effects.

Warnings

Do not use for more than 2 weeks without medical supervision. Excessive use may cause acid rebound. Antacids may interfere with absorption of other medications; separate dosing by 2 hours.

How it works

Calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate neutralize gastric acid by a chemical acid-base reaction, raising intragastric pH and relieving acid-related symptoms. Simethicone is a surface-active agent that reduces gas bubble surface tension in the gastrointestinal tract, facilitating expulsion and relieving bloating.
