Uses

This antioxidant and carotenoid supplement, similar in composition to the AREDS2 formula, is indicated to support macular health and reduce the risk of progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It supports retinal function and protects against oxidative damage in the eye.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component. Use caution with high-dose zinc in patients at risk of copper deficiency.

Side effects

Generally well tolerated. Gastrointestinal upset and nausea may occur, particularly from zinc or vitamin C. High doses of zinc can interfere with copper absorption. Skin yellowing may rarely occur with high carotenoid intake.

Warnings

This supplement does not treat active AMD but may slow its progression. Should be used under medical supervision. Not a substitute for regular ophthalmologic evaluation.

How it works

Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids that accumulate in the macular pigment of the retina, filtering high-energy blue light and neutralizing reactive oxygen species. Vitamins C and E are antioxidants that protect retinal cells from oxidative damage. Zinc supports retinal enzyme function and vitamin A metabolism, while copper is included to prevent zinc-induced copper deficiency.

Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, protected from light. Keep the container tightly closed.
