Uses

Used to reverse the effects of nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents after surgery. It is also used in certain cholinergic-responsive conditions.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in hypersensitivity, peritonitis, and mechanical obstruction of the gastrointestinal or urinary tract.

Side effects

Bradycardia, nausea, vomiting, increased salivation, and abdominal cramps may occur.

Warnings

Use cautiously in patients with cardiac disease or arrhythmias. Monitoring of heart rate is important.

How it works

A cholinesterase inhibitor that increases acetylcholine concentrations and reverses neuromuscular blockade.
