Uses
This triple combination of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), caffeine, and paracetamol is used for the symptomatic relief of mild to moderate pain including headache, migraine, dental pain, menstrual pain, and musculoskeletal pain. Caffeine enhances analgesic efficacy.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in children and teenagers with viral illness (Reye's syndrome risk), patients with active peptic ulcer, hemophilia, known hypersensitivity to salicylates or paracetamol, and severe hepatic or renal impairment.
Side effects
May cause GI irritation or bleeding (from aspirin), hepatotoxicity at high doses of paracetamol, CNS stimulation or palpitations from caffeine, and allergic reactions. Risk of Reye's syndrome with aspirin in children.
Warnings
Do not use in children with viral infections. Avoid regular use with alcohol due to bleeding and hepatotoxicity risk. Do not exceed recommended doses of paracetamol from all sources. Avoid in third trimester of pregnancy.
How it works
Aspirin irreversibly inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis and platelet aggregation. Paracetamol inhibits central prostaglandin synthesis. Caffeine increases the bioavailability and efficacy of both analgesics by acting as an adenosine receptor antagonist.
Storage
Store at room temperature, 15–30°C, in a dry place protected from light and moisture.
