Uses

Used in infertility treatment to trigger ovulation and support reproductive hormone function. It may also be used in selected male hypogonadal conditions.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in hypersensitivity, hormone-dependent tumors, and certain reproductive disorders where treatment is inappropriate.

Side effects

Injection-site reactions, headache, fluid retention, mood changes, and ovarian hyperstimulation may occur.

Warnings

Risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and multiple pregnancy in fertility treatment. Requires specialist supervision.

How it works

Acts similarly to luteinizing hormone and stimulates gonadal steroid production and ovulation.
