Uses

A long-acting local anesthetic indicated for surgical anesthesia and postoperative pain management via epidural, spinal, peripheral nerve block, and infiltration techniques.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levobupivacaine, amide-type local anesthetics, or any formulation component. Intravenous regional anesthesia (Bier block) is contraindicated.

Side effects

Central nervous system toxicity (dizziness, tinnitus, perioral numbness, seizures) and cardiovascular effects (bradycardia, hypotension) may occur with systemic absorption. Nausea and back pain are also reported.

Warnings

Resuscitative equipment must be immediately available when using regional anesthetics. Accidental intravascular injection can cause cardiovascular collapse. Use the lowest effective dose and aspirate before injection.

How it works

Levobupivacaine is the pure S(-)-enantiomer of bupivacaine. It blocks neural conduction by inhibiting sodium ion influx through voltage-gated sodium channels, producing reversible loss of sensation and motor function. It has a lower cardiotoxicity profile than racemic bupivacaine.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 15–25°C. Protect from light. For single use only; discard unused portion.
