Uses

Fixed-dose combination antihypertensive used for the treatment of essential hypertension in patients stabilised on the individual components at the same dose ratio.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to either component, history of angioedema related to ACE inhibitor use, cardiogenic shock, haemodynamically significant aortic stenosis, and pregnancy (second and third trimesters).

Side effects

Common side effects include peripheral oedema and flushing (felodipine) and dry cough (ramipril). Other effects include headache, dizziness, palpitations, and fatigue. Angioedema is a rare but serious adverse effect of ramipril.

Warnings

Monitor renal function, serum potassium, and blood pressure at initiation and periodically. Avoid in bilateral renal artery stenosis. Do not use during pregnancy. Patients should be warned about dizziness, especially during the first days of therapy.

How it works

Felodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that causes peripheral vasodilation, reducing systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure. Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor that suppresses the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, reducing angiotensin II production and promoting vasodilation and sodium excretion. The combination has complementary mechanisms providing additive antihypertensive effect.

Store below 25°C, in a dry place, away from light. Keep in original blister packaging.
