Uses
Combination used for temporary relief of nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and itchy or watery eyes associated with the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies.
Do not use if
Do not use with or within 2 weeks of stopping a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). Contraindicated in patients with severe hypertension, severe coronary artery disease, or urinary retention.
Side effects
Common effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, and urinary retention from chlorpheniramine. Pseudoephedrine may cause nervousness, dizziness, insomnia, and increased heart rate. Discontinue and consult a doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 7 days.
Warnings
Avoid alcohol and other sedating medications while taking this product. Use with caution in patients with hypertension, diabetes, thyroid disease, or enlarged prostate. Keep out of reach of children.
How it works
Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation H1 antihistamine that competitively blocks histamine at H1 receptors, reducing allergic symptoms. Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic amine that causes vasoconstriction of nasal mucosa blood vessels, thereby reducing congestion.
Storage
Store in a dry place protected from light at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted between 15–30°C. Do not use if outer packaging is opened or blister is torn.
