Uses
Combined antitussive and expectorant syrup indicated for the symptomatic relief of dry and productive cough associated with upper and lower respiratory tract conditions. Oxomemazine suppresses cough reflex while guaifenesin loosens secretions.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component, those taking MAO inhibitors, patients with asthma exacerbation, and in children under 2 years. Avoid in patients with urinary retention or narrow-angle glaucoma.
Side effects
May cause drowsiness, sedation, dizziness, dry mouth, and constipation due to the antihistamine component. Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and vomiting are possible.
Warnings
Avoid activities requiring mental alertness while taking this medication due to sedation risk. Do not combine with other CNS depressants or alcohol. Use with caution in elderly patients and those with hepatic or renal impairment.
How it works
Oxomemazine is a phenothiazine-derived antihistamine with central antitussive and sedative properties. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that reduces mucus viscosity and facilitates mucociliary clearance. Sodium benzoate acts as a mild antitussive and preservative in the formulation.
