Uses
Used as a mucolytic and antitussive combination for symptomatic relief of productive cough associated with respiratory tract infections or chronic bronchitis. Carbocysteine and guaifenesin reduce mucus viscosity and facilitate expectoration, while oxomemazine provides antihistamine and antitussive effects.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component, active peptic ulcer, and in children under 2 years. Oxomemazine-containing products should be used cautiously with CNS depressants and alcohol.
Side effects
May cause drowsiness due to oxomemazine, dry mouth, gastrointestinal upset, dizziness, and constipation. The antihistamine component may impair alertness.
Warnings
Contains a sedating antihistamine; patients should avoid driving or operating machinery. Use with caution in elderly patients, those with urinary retention, glaucoma, or prostatic hypertrophy. Avoid concomitant use with opioids or other CNS depressants.
How it works
Carbocysteine is a mucoactive agent that modifies mucus glycoprotein structure, reducing viscosity and aiding mucociliary clearance. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases respiratory tract secretions and thins mucus. Oxomemazine is a phenothiazine antihistamine with antitussive and sedating properties.
Storage
Store at room temperature below 25°C, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
