Uses

Rho(D) immune globulin is indicated for the prevention of Rh isoimmunization in Rh-negative women following delivery of an Rh-positive infant, miscarriage, abortion, ectopic pregnancy, or invasive obstetric procedures. It is also used to treat immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in Rh-positive patients.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in Rh-positive individuals and in those with known hypersensitivity to human immunoglobulin preparations. Not indicated for Rh-positive patients except in ITP treatment.

Side effects

Local injection site reactions such as pain and swelling are common. Systemic reactions include fever, headache, and chills. Rare but serious reactions include hemolysis and intravascular coagulation in ITP patients.

Warnings

Products derived from human blood may carry a risk of transmitting infectious agents. Monitor patients receiving intravenous formulations for signs of hemolysis. Ensure correct patient Rh typing before administration.

How it works

Rho(D) immunoglobulin contains high-titer anti-D antibodies derived from human plasma. When administered to Rh-negative individuals, these antibodies neutralize Rh-positive fetal red cells that may enter the maternal circulation, preventing sensitization and formation of endogenous anti-D antibodies.

Storage

Store refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Protect from light.
