Uses
Used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to brimonidine. Use is generally avoided in neonates and very young children.
Side effects
May cause eye redness, burning, stinging, itching, dry mouth, and fatigue.
Warnings
Use cautiously in patients with cardiovascular disease or vascular insufficiency.
How it works
Brimonidine is an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that lowers intraocular pressure by reducing aqueous humor production and increasing outflow.
