Uses

Oxycodone is a strong opioid analgesic indicated for the management of pain severe enough to require opioid treatment and for which non-opioid alternatives have been inadequate or not tolerated.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in significant respiratory depression, acute severe bronchial asthma in an unmonitored setting, known or suspected gastrointestinal obstruction including paralytic ileus, and in patients with known hypersensitivity to oxycodone.

Side effects

Common side effects include constipation, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, and headache. Serious risks include respiratory depression, hypotension, and physical dependence. Overdose can be fatal.

Warnings

Oxycodone carries serious risks of addiction, abuse, misuse, overdose, and death. Concurrent use with benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants can cause profound sedation and fatal respiratory depression. Use with extreme caution and only under close medical supervision.

How it works

Oxycodone is a full mu-opioid receptor agonist. It produces analgesia by binding to opioid receptors in the central nervous system, altering the perception of and emotional response to pain. There is no ceiling effect for its analgesic action.

Storage

Store at controlled room temperature (15–30°C). Keep in a secure location to prevent theft, misuse, or accidental ingestion, especially by children.
