Uses

Indicated for palliative treatment of hormone-sensitive advanced prostate cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, central precocious puberty, and as part of assisted reproduction protocols. Acts by suppressing gonadal steroid production.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to triptorelin or other GnRH analogs. Not indicated for use in women who are or may become pregnant, as it can cause fetal harm. Contraindicated in women with undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.

Side effects

Common side effects include hot flushes, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and bone mineral density loss with prolonged use. Transient disease flare may occur at treatment initiation. Mood changes, fatigue, and injection site reactions are also reported.

Warnings

A transient increase in serum testosterone (disease flare) may occur in the first weeks of prostate cancer treatment and can temporarily worsen bone pain or urinary obstruction. Monitor bone density with long-term use. Use in adolescents should be carefully evaluated.

How it works

Triptorelin is a synthetic decapeptide analog of GnRH. Continuous exposure causes paradoxical downregulation and desensitization of pituitary GnRH receptors, leading to suppression of LH and FSH secretion and consequently reducing gonadal steroid production to castrate levels.

Storage

Store lyophilized powder at room temperature (15–25°C). Protect from light. Use reconstituted solution immediately.
