Uses
Used in hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms and in selected gynecologic conditions. Estrogen-progestin combinations may also help control abnormal uterine bleeding in specific cases.
Do not use if
High risk of thromboembolic disease, active or past thrombosis, certain vascular disorders, severe liver disease, or hormone-sensitive malignancy.
Side effects
Headache, breast tenderness, nausea, mood changes, and irregular bleeding may occur. Serious risks include thromboembolic events and bone-related effects with certain regimens.
Warnings
May increase the risk of venous and arterial thromboembolic events. Regular evaluation of cardiovascular and gynecologic risk factors is recommended.
How it works
Combines estrogen and progestin activity to regulate hormonal effects on reproductive tissues. The progestin component helps counteract endometrial stimulation by estrogen.
