Uses
Used to produce mydriasis and cycloplegia for ophthalmic diagnostic procedures.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to tropicamide or formulation components.
Side effects
May cause blurred vision, photophobia, eye irritation, increased intraocular pressure, and dry mouth.
Warnings
Use cautiously in children and patients at risk of angle-closure glaucoma.
How it works
Tropicamide is an anticholinergic agent that blocks iris sphincter and ciliary muscle responses, causing pupil dilation.
