Uses
This herbal and nutraceutical combination is marketed as a weight-management supplement. Chromium picolinate is claimed to improve insulin sensitivity and reduce carbohydrate cravings; garcinia cambogia extract (hydroxycitric acid) is purported to inhibit fat synthesis; green tea extract may modestly increase energy expenditure; ginger supports digestive function.
Do not use if
Avoid use in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient safety data. Not recommended for patients with liver disease. Concurrent use with anticoagulants (green tea may affect platelet function) or hypoglycemic agents (chromium may enhance insulin effect) should be monitored.
Side effects
Chromium picolinate may cause gastrointestinal upset and, rarely, liver or kidney toxicity at high doses. Garcinia cambogia has been associated with hepatotoxicity in case reports. Green tea extract (high doses) may cause insomnia, palpitations, or liver injury. Ginger can cause mild gastrointestinal discomfort.
Warnings
Clinical evidence supporting meaningful weight loss from this combination is weak. Patients with diabetes, liver disease, or cardiovascular conditions should consult a physician before use. Supplements are not a substitute for dietary modification and exercise.
How it works
Chromium potentiates insulin action by enhancing receptor binding. Hydroxycitric acid from garcinia inhibits ATP-citrate lyase, theoretically reducing de novo lipogenesis. Catechins in green tea activate thermogenesis via sympathomimetic pathways. Gingerols in ginger exhibit anti-inflammatory and prokinetic properties.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
