Uses

Indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to latanoprost or any other ingredient in the formulation.

Side effects

Common adverse effects include increased iris pigmentation (usually permanent), eyelid skin darkening, and eyelash changes (increased length, thickness, and number). Other effects include blurred vision, eye irritation, and foreign body sensation.

Warnings

Iris pigmentation changes are likely permanent; inform patients before initiating therapy, especially those with mixed-color irides. Eyelash changes are usually reversible. Use with caution during pregnancy and in patients with active intraocular inflammation.

How it works

Latanoprost is a prostaglandin F2α analogue that reduces IOP by increasing uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor. It acts selectively on prostaglandin FP receptors in the ciliary muscle to enhance aqueous drainage through the uveoscleral pathway.

Storage

Store unopened bottles in a refrigerator (2°C–8°C / 36°F–46°F). Once opened, store at room temperature up to 25°C (77°F) for up to 6 weeks. Protect from light.
