Uses

This dual-antiseptic combination is indicated for the daily cleaning and disinfection of human skin and environmental surfaces. It is used for preoperative skin preparation, wound cleansing, and general antiseptic purposes to reduce bacterial load.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to benzalkonium chloride or chlorhexidine. Do not use in the eyes or on mucous membranes. Do not use with electrocautery procedures.

Side effects

May cause local irritation, redness, or rash upon application. Discontinue use if persistent irritation occurs. Hypersensitivity reactions are possible. Avoid contact with eyes.

Warnings

For external use only. Flammable — keep away from fire or flame. Avoid contact with eyes; flush immediately with water if contact occurs. Not for use in ear canals. Keep out of reach of children.

How it works

Benzalkonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound that disrupts bacterial cell membranes by electrostatic interaction, causing leakage of cellular contents. Chlorhexidine binds to the bacterial cell membrane causing precipitation of cytoplasmic proteins. Together they provide broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.

Storage

Store at room temperature. Keep away from heat and open flames. Store in the original container tightly closed.
