Used for the treatment of hyperkalemia in adults.

Side effects

The most common adverse effect is mild to moderate edema. Gastrointestinal effects and hypokalemia may occur.

Warnings

Not suitable for emergency treatment of life-threatening hyperkalemia. Monitor for edema and electrolyte disturbances.

How it works

A non-absorbed potassium binder that exchanges sodium and hydrogen for potassium in the gastrointestinal tract, increasing fecal potassium elimination.
