Uses
Used for treatment and prevention of osteoporosis and for Paget disease of bone.
Do not use if
Esophageal abnormalities delaying emptying, inability to remain upright for 30 minutes, and hypocalcemia.
Side effects
Upper gastrointestinal irritation, abdominal discomfort, musculoskeletal pain, and rare jaw osteonecrosis may occur.
Warnings
Follow administration instructions carefully to reduce esophageal injury risk. Assess calcium and vitamin D status.
How it works
Bisphosphonate that inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and increases bone strength.
