Uses
Used as a nutritional supplement to prevent or treat deficiencies of iron, folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin C, zinc, and copper. Commonly indicated in pregnancy, lactation, anemia, and general nutritional inadequacy.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in hemochromatosis or other iron overload conditions. Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component.
Side effects
May cause gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, constipation, or darkening of stools due to iron. Excessive intake of fat-soluble components may cause toxicity.
Warnings
Accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6; keep out of reach of children. Contact a poison control center immediately in case of accidental overdose.
How it works
Iron is essential for hemoglobin synthesis and oxygen transport. Folic acid and vitamin B12 are required for DNA synthesis and red blood cell maturation. Vitamin C enhances non-heme iron absorption. Zinc and copper are cofactors for numerous enzymatic processes.
