Uses
Used as a digestive enzyme supplement to aid digestion of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Indicated for pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, dyspepsia, and conditions associated with impaired digestive enzyme secretion.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to porcine proteins or papain. Avoid use during acute pancreatitis flares. Not suitable for patients with pork allergy.
Side effects
May cause mild gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea, particularly at high doses. Allergic reactions to porcine-derived pancreatin are rare but possible. Papain may cause mild irritation.
Warnings
Enteric-coated tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. Use with caution in patients with hyperuricemia as high doses of pancreatin may raise uric acid levels. Keep out of reach of children.
How it works
Pancreatin contains lipases, proteases, and amylases derived from porcine pancreas that supplement endogenous digestive enzymes. Papain is a cysteine protease from papaya that hydrolyzes a broad spectrum of proteins, enhancing proteolytic digestion.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, protected from moisture and heat. Keep in original packaging.
