Uses

Used to temporarily relieve symptoms of hay fever, allergic rhinitis, and the common cold including runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy and watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients currently taking or within two weeks of stopping an MAOI. Should not be used in patients with severe hypertension, coronary artery disease, or narrow-angle glaucoma.

Side effects

Common side effects include drowsiness (from triprolidine), nervousness and insomnia (from pseudoephedrine), dry mouth, blurred vision, and urinary retention. Dizziness may also occur.

Warnings

May impair ability to drive or operate machinery due to sedation from triprolidine. Avoid alcohol use. Use with caution in patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, or prostatic hypertrophy.

How it works

Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic that decongest nasal mucosa via adrenergic vasoconstriction. Triprolidine is a first-generation antihistamine (H1 receptor antagonist) that reduces allergic symptoms by blocking histamine effects.

Storage

Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted between 15–30°C (59–86°F). Keep in original packaging.
