Uses

Oxiconazole is indicated for the topical treatment of tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis caused by dermatophytes, as well as tinea versicolor. The vaginal tablet form is used for vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to oxiconazole or any component of the formulation. Not for ophthalmic or intravaginal use in the cream formulation unless specifically indicated.

Side effects

Local reactions may include pruritus, burning, irritation, allergic contact dermatitis, folliculitis, erythema, stinging, and maceration at the application site.

Warnings

For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation or sensitization develops, discontinue use and consult a physician. Efficacy in fungal nail or scalp infections has not been established.

How it works

Oxiconazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits ergosterol synthesis by blocking the cytochrome P450-dependent 14-alpha demethylase enzyme, disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity and causing cell death.

Storage

Store between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F), away from excessive heat and direct sunlight.
