Uses
Calcium combined with vitamin D3 is used to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D deficiencies. It supports bone health and is indicated for osteoporosis, rickets, osteomalacia, and conditions with increased calcium requirements such as pregnancy and lactation.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis, hypervitaminosis D, and known hypersensitivity to any component.
Side effects
May cause hypercalcemia, constipation, nausea, and increased urinary calcium with excessive doses. Prolonged high-dose vitamin D supplementation may lead to soft tissue calcification.
Warnings
Avoid long-term high-dose supplementation without monitoring serum calcium and 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels. Use with caution in patients with renal impairment or those on thiazide diuretics, which reduce urinary calcium excretion.
How it works
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is converted in the liver and kidney to its active form, calcitriol, which enhances intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphorus and supports bone mineralization. Adequate calcium intake is essential to maintain bone density.
