Uses

Used in the treatment of various cancers including bladder, pancreatic, lung, breast, and ovarian cancers. Intravesical formulations may be used for certain non-muscle invasive bladder cancers.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to gemcitabine or formulation components.

Side effects

Myelosuppression, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, fever, urinary symptoms, and elevated liver enzymes may occur.

Warnings

May cause severe bone marrow suppression, pulmonary toxicity, and serious infections. Monitor blood counts regularly.

How it works

Nucleoside antimetabolite that inhibits DNA synthesis and prevents proliferation of rapidly dividing cells.

Store at 20–25°C in the original container and handle as a hazardous drug.
