Uses

The fixed combination of brinzolamide 1% and brimonidine 0.2% ophthalmic suspension is indicated for reducing elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the product, and in neonates and infants under two years of age due to the CNS depressant potential of brimonidine.

Side effects

The most common adverse reactions include blurred vision, eye irritation, dysgeusia (altered taste), dry mouth, and eye allergy, occurring in approximately 3–5% of patients.

Warnings

Caution with sulfonamide hypersensitivity due to the brinzolamide component. Use with caution in severe renal impairment. Brimonidine may cause CNS depression in young children. Risk of corneal endothelial cell loss with long-term use.

How it works

Brinzolamide inhibits carbonic anhydrase II in the ciliary processes, reducing aqueous humor secretion. Brimonidine is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that both reduces aqueous humor production and increases uveoscleral outflow. Together they provide additive IOP-lowering effects.

Store at controlled room temperature. Shake well before use. Keep out of reach of children.
