Uses
Used as part of chemotherapy regimens, particularly as adjuvant treatment for certain breast cancers.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in severe cardiac disease, severe hepatic impairment, severe myelosuppression, and prior excessive anthracycline exposure.
Side effects
May cause myelosuppression, nausea, hair loss, cardiotoxicity, mucositis, and tissue injury if extravasation occurs.
Warnings
Serious cardiac toxicity, secondary malignancies, severe myelosuppression, and tissue necrosis can occur.
How it works
Epirubicin is an anthracycline that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, impairing cancer cell replication.
