Used for prevention of disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex infection in advanced HIV disease.

Do not use if

Hypersensitivity to rifabutin, other rifamycins, or certain interacting therapies.

Rash, gastrointestinal symptoms, neutropenia, and liver abnormalities may occur.

Evaluate for active tuberculosis before prophylactic use.

Rifamycin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial RNA synthesis.

Store at room temperature.
